patient moon

© Colleen Hilman
All the world was staring at the sun,  you were gazing at the moon.  It didn't offer as loudly, a cloud covering (mere droplets of water) could make one forget.  But you didn't forget.  You couldn't if you tried for whole oceans moved in sync to it's silence.  The flow, the ebb, the wax and wane, rise and fall.  Your entire heart followed it, a pace easily kept but not readily understood.  Sunrises and sunsets bursting in and out, sunscreen and broad hats between, beware the sun! The great and gorgeous sun, sparkle!   Keep the sun, you had your moon.  For when it spoke full you listened in awe and when it was small you poured out tears and words. Matched your feet in its thin trail left behind arcing the stars and kept up.  Waited for you by moving imperceptible in frost.  The work to see in reflected light, a gradual finetuning to things that only glare in the sun.

That. Is. Stunning.
It's almost too beautiful to be real.
